The CricketWood property was purchased in 1996 and the name was the inspiration of a 10 year old young man, Adam, who was impressed by the clouds of crickets that we disturbed as we walked through the paddocks. The land had originally been cleared by ‘Old Joe’ and had been part of a large dairy farm. Joe had retired to live the life of an hermit in a caravan nearby.
Planning the vineyard took several years and included a course of Viticulture at the University of Western Australia under the guidance of Professor ‘Jac’ Considine. From that course, CricketWood acquired the friendship and expertise of Mychelle Edwards who brought her family to help with the planting of the vines. Those 2770 cabernet vines have been a labour of love for family and friends ever since. In April 2005, there was much excitement when a large group of us gathered to bring in the first harvest.
